The ability to schedule future posts on Facebook pages makes it easy to always have something posted to your account. The bad news is that scheduled posts aren’t a substitute for managing your page. Some business owners schedule posts weeks, even months in advance, and never bother to actually interact on the page. The truth is scheduled posts can be a good thing, but you must use them properly. Otherwise, your posts look automated and might not attract new likes.
Easy to Set Up
Facebook posts are easy to set up and can be scheduled for any time. You choose the day, year, hour, and even minute that you want the message to post. For those that don’t have a lot of time to spend on Facebook, this can be a good solution, but it’s not an answer to good promotion of your business through Facebook.
Once you discover how easy it is to schedule posts, you may be tempted to schedule every post by logging in once a week. This is not a good idea. First of all, the posts will begin to seem automated. Second, you aren’t really interacting with your customers. In order to properly promote your business, you need to be involved. If you don’t have the time to interact personally, hire a social media expert.
Great for Busy Weeks
If you know you’re going to be out of town in the future, you can schedule a few posts to keep everyone chatting while you’re away. Your first scheduled post might even read, “I’m away from the office for a few days, but what do you think about…?” When you have a free minute, log in and make a few comments to keep the conversations going.
Not a Good Idea for Every Post
The reason scheduled posts aren’t good for every post is that the post can easily seem stale. Instead of having a fresh idea that is about a current event, your post may even seem out of place. When you post on the fly, you’re more apt to create interesting posts that encourage fans to interact.
Great for Themed Posts
Scheduled posts are a wonderful idea if you want to discuss a certain topic each week or each day. For example, you might schedule posts on Fridays that ask which movie everyone is going to see over the weekend.
Need to Be Improved Upon Occasionally
While themed posts are certainly a great idea, you need to improve them ever so often. For example, instead of asking about which movie people are going to see each Friday, start asking where they plan to have dinner or what they’ll be doing over the weekend.
Scheduled Facebook posts can certainly be a good thing and make it easier to interact with your followers. With that said, it’s not a good idea to schedule every post you make. You want your ideas to seem fresh rather than automated. Before scheduling your weekly posts, consider whether or not such posts are a good fit for scheduling. If the post will seem automated, skip it. Remember, your Facebook page is a place to interact with followers, not just make statements and ask questions.Share
